Day 23 and 24--Boston, MA

We woke up early to head out of NYC so that we could get to Boston in time for a 4pm Red Sox game at Fenway!  Along the way we stopped in Wilton, CT where I lived for 7th grade, 8th grade, and Freshman year of high school.  We got a chance to drive through the town, see my old house, and even visit the high school gym that I played in.

But, honestly, the kids were far more interested in continuing our drive so we could make it to Fenway in time.  If you aren't a baseball fan, you may not know that Fenway Park is essentially the Cathedral of baseball in our country.  It's a classic and when baseball fans talk about stadiums they always ask "Have you ever been to Fenway?" and answering "yes" puts you in a different category of baseball fan.

OK, now that I've completely built Fenway Park up, take a look at the pictures...

When the game was over (after a walk off-single in the 10th by former Mariner Mike Carp), the kids were allowed to go down on the field, touch the green monster, and run the bases...how cool!

By the time the night had ended, we were all tired and hungry, and mom and dad figured what better thing to have for dinner than COLD STONE ICE CREAM!

Well, I guess we won't win any awards for healthy eating on this trip, but it was great to be driving away from the stadium and when the kids asked "What are we going to have for dinner?" to answer "ICE CREAM!!!"

The next morning we slept in, and played in the pool at the hotel.  I truly believe our kids would be happy if we told them we were going to drive around the country and spend every day swimming in hotel pools and not do anything else.

So, after pool time and lunch we ventured into Downtown Boston and did the tourist thing on the Freedom Trail.  We walked the trail starting at the site of the Battle of Bunker Hill where we climbed to the top of the monument that overlooks all of Boston.

From there it was a short walk down to the USS Constitution

We wrapped up the evening in Boston walking through Downtown seeing the Old State House, the site of the Boston Massacre, watching a street juggler for 45 minutes (Bryce was inspired!) and eating dinner at a replica of the "Cheers" bar.  It was a real dinner this time...not just ice cream.
